Selection of Books:

The Kindle 3 will give you access to the Kindle Store, which is far and away the biggest and most popular ebook store on the Internet. You will be able to find nearly any popular book that you want, usually at a much reduced price compared to the print version of the book, apart from the thousands of free classics. The iPad, by comparison, utilizes the iBookstore from Apple. The selection of books in the iBookstore isn't quite on par with the selection from Amazon, but then again Amazon had a head start of a couple years. However, iPad users can download the Kindle App from in the App Store to gain access to both the iBookstore and the Kindle Store. This means that iPad users will always have a greater book selection than Kindle users.
